Checklist templates

Ten ready-made checklists for emergency preparedness – open a template and adopt it as your own list.

Food

Calculated for 30 days per adult person – deliberately going further than the federal 1-week minimum, with longer-lasting situations such as an electricity shortage in mind. The quantities work out to a good 3'000 kcal per day (our own calculation), with a reserve for higher needs, spoilage or additional people. Adjust to taste and household – and use up and replace continuously.

Water & hygiene

Drinking, cooking and hygiene – calculated for 30 days. The federal minimum of 9 litres per person covers drinking and cooking for around three days; hygiene, for us, explicitly belongs with it. Our recommendation: 90 L of drinking water per person (3 L per day) plus quantified non-potable water – a combination of stored supply, treatment and collection at distribution points.

Energy & light

Power for light, refrigeration and communication. The basis is calculated for 72 hours without the grid, in stages from torch and power bank to solar, power station and a safely operated generator. For longer situations up to 30 days the combination counts: solar charges in summer, the generator bridges winter and bad weather in short charging windows.

Heat & cooking

Cooking without electricity and staying warm when the heating fails. We calculate the fuel for 30 days – our recommendation, disclosed as our own calculation – with safe storage and clear ventilation rules. Staying warm means first of all: clothing, blankets and body heat – every open flame indoors follows the safety rules.

Emergency backpack

Ready to grab if you have to leave your home quickly – packed in 30 minutes, with the essentials for 1–2 days away from home. Deliberately not calculated for 30 days: 30 days of water alone would be around 90 kg – the large supply stays at home («Food», «Water & hygiene» checklists). One backpack per person, no heavier than you can carry: every litre of water weighs a kilo.

Health

A medicine cabinet on two levels: the federal government requires long-term medication «always in stock» but names no duration. Our recommendation: a reserve for 30 days – long-term medication and consumables. For prescription medicines, clarify the quantity and refills with your doctor or pharmacy (prescription validity, cold chain). Check for expiry at least once a year – anything expired goes back to the pharmacy.

Documents & money

A document dossier with originals and copies plus a cash reserve – within reach in one place and additionally backed up encrypted in digital form. With the cash we deliberately go beyond the federal rule of thumb: as a voluntary reserve, about one month's budget in small notes and some coins – each household sets the amount itself.

Tools & protection

So that small damage stays small – and a fire does not grow large: tools for repairing and sealing, smoke detectors and a fire extinguisher for the home, and protective equipment for clearing up.

Stay informed when the mobile network and the internet fail – with an emergency radio, radio communication and an analogue family plan.

Dependants

Think of everyone who is cared for too: children, pets and people with special needs. We calculate baby food, nappies and pet food for 30 days like the rest of the supply – deliberately going further than the federal 1-week minimum; aids and arrangements come on top.
