Checklist · 30 days · per person

Food

Calculated for 30 days per adult person – deliberately going further than the federal 1-week minimum, with longer-lasting situations such as an electricity shortage in mind. The quantities work out to a good 3'000 kcal per day (our own calculation), with a reserve for higher needs, spoilage or additional people. Adjust to taste and household – and use up and replace continuously.

Maintain your supplies
Item Amount Note
Inventory list with best-before dates — the best-before date is a quality limit, not a throw-away date – check instead of discarding automatically; «use by», in contrast, is a safety limit
«First in, first out» – rotate your stock — new items to the back, use older ones first – use up and replace continuously (Alertswiss)
Store cool, dry and protected from light — federal recommendation; close supplies tightly (protection against pantry moths)
Sort out bulging or damaged cans — domed lid, rust, hissing when opened → discard, never taste
A way to cook without electricity planned for — gas cooker/camping stove & fuel → «Heat & cooking» checklist
