Know & mark the shut-off points — show everyone in the household the main shut-off valves for water and gas plus the fuse box; when evacuating, turn off the gas and switch off the appliances
Plastic sheeting & duct tape — —
If at risk of flooding: sandbags & submersible pump — recommended by the federal authorities for exposed locations; check every spring, practise using them; only pump out the cellar once the groundwater is below the cellar floor
Shovel & crowbar — for filling sandbags and for clearing work – buried people are rescued by the fire brigade (118)
Spare fuses — only for older installations with screw-in fuses – have the matching amp ratings ready
Work gloves — against cuts during clearing and repair work; first aid: «Health» checklist

Protection & safety

Smoke detector (EN 14604 standard) — simple, cheap, saves lives – while you sleep only it warns you; mount it centrally and in bedrooms, test monthly, replace after 10 years
CO detector (EN 50291 standard) — very handy when you cook or heat with a flame indoors – warns of invisible, odourless carbon monoxide; details in the «Energy & light» checklist
Fire extinguisher — belongs in every household: foam extinguisher from 6 l, plus a class F extinguisher for the kitchen; servicing per the manufacturer's instructions, usually every 3 years – fire blanket: «Heat & cooking» checklist
FFP2/FFP3 masks & safety goggles — FFP2 against dust, FFP3 for mould after water damage; they do not protect against gases or vapours – in a chemical incident stay indoors instead of using a mask
Signal whistle — to draw attention to yourself
