Emergency backpack

Ready to grab if you have to leave your home quickly – packed in 30 minutes, with the essentials for 1–2 days away from home. Deliberately not calculated for 30 days: 30 days of water alone would be around 90 kg – the large supply stays at home («Food», «Water & hygiene» checklists). One backpack per person, no heavier than you can carry: every litre of water weighs a kilo.

Item Amount Note
The backpack complements the 30-day home supply – it does not replace it — the exception to these lists: 30 days is not portable – the large supply stays at home («Food», «Water & hygiene» checklists), the backpack covers 1–2 days of mobility
Decide where the backpack is kept — store it within reach, e.g. by the exit – everyone in the household knows where it is
Check every year: expiry dates, batteries, charge the power bank, clothing sizes — —
Add items per child — baby food, nappies, a toy, a card with name and address
Plan for pets — food and transport – do not leave animals shut in when evacuating
